Dungeon of the Mad Mage Session 3

Session three began with the party facing six goblins fighting a carrion crawler. Gala Door used malleable illusion to create a terrifying image of the defeated creature, convincing the goblins of the party's power. This led to Gala Door, with Fanus translating, persuading the goblins to turn against their bugbear leaders. The goblins agreed to the party's commands and headed south to find the bugbears.

Later, Anna, recalling an inscription, put on a bronze mask and vanished, reappearing in a room with a simulacrum of Halaster Blackcloak. She asked him three questions about Undermountain, learning about a Rod of Lordly Might and a powerful legendary weapon on the second level near the Hall of Statues. Gala Door also experienced this encounter. They discovered the mirror was a gateway to level 10, requiring a certain level to pass.

The party then encountered a long hallway with ever-burning candles. Their bat familiar was caught by a gelatinous cube, which the party subsequently defeated, finding a +1 greatsword within its remains.

Moving on, they surprised and defeated two bugbears in a curved hallway. Further along, they heard commotion and found six more goblins battling an unseen creature. Gala Door again used malleable illusion, making it appear as though they had easily defeated the creature, and then used prestidigitation for sound effects. He then presented himself as an “elf Lord” and, with Fanus translating, convinced these goblins to pledge allegiance and turn against the bugbears.

The session concluded as the party observed the six newly allied goblins heading south towards the bugbears and then began exploring a large room to the north containing a 14-foot tall granite obelisk surrounded by goblin beds.
